Breast Lift

This is the breast enhancement procedure I find most rewarding. A woman’s breasts may sag and lose their shape as a result of hormonal changes following breast feeding or the natural aging process. A breast lift, or Mastopexy, helps to reshape a woman’s breasts to produce a more youthful look.

My goal is to create a breast mound that is firm and shapely, with the proper projection. The nipple areolar complex should be placed in an aesthetically pleasing location. The breasts must have symmetry. Most importantly, the scars have to be light, thin, and imperceptible.

- If a woman has good quality breast skin tone (without loose skin or stretch marks) and the nipple areolar complex is not going to be lifted a considerable distance, I prefer to use a minimally invasive technique by placing the incision just around the borders of the areolar complex. The breast mound can be reshaped through this same incision to give a firmer appearance. Excess skin around the areola is removed and tightened.

- If the patient’s breast skin is loose, thin, and has stretch marks, I would advise the patient to consider a different approach. This method would also produce the best cosmetic result for a patient whose nipple areolar complex will be lifted a considerable distance. The anchor shaped incision along the natural contour of the breast is a versatile incision where I can move, rotate, and sculpt the excess skin and breast tissue, as well as re-contour the breast mound and reposition the nipple. The skin is pulled snugly around the new nipple to complete the firming process—this yields a significantly more youthful appearance.

I prefer to use long lasting and self absorbing sutures on the inside of the suture and in four different layers. I try to use several sutures on the deep tissues to keep an inside tension on the wound so that there is minimal tension on the surface skin of the incision. By burying the sutures, no stitches will need to be removed postoperatively. This suturing technique also helps to keep the scar from spreading.
